These vessels turn themselves to tentacles

that pull out tired limbs from the tomb

of deceased oxygen. They slither warily

into an oceanic sarcophagus of sodium,

crack out flammable gases that sublime

down to the form of the Kraken’s axon.

These molecules are no longer mythical,

but alive. I am not aflame, but alight.
